Missing? Where Are Bruce & Caroline
Thanks for all your support through our medical trials. We've been struggling to recover from the bilateral knee replacements (Caroline) and lung surgery (Bruce). It’s been a ‘Bummer Summer’, but we are getting back on our feet and eager to see you all at Colonial. Caroline is looking forward to sharing some great wines (and stories) with you!
Restaurant Awards 2010 Wine Spectator
The annual restaurant award program results are in! Of 3 levels, our RI winners are in two. Those in the Award of Excellence (2,880 winners) have a well-chosen selection of quality producers and thematic matches to the menu in both price and style (typically @ 100 wines); Best of Award of Excellence (788 winners) is a step above with vertical offerings from top producers from major regions, along with superior presentation (typically 400 – 1,000 wines).
Pick up the magazine to use on your travels, or just get the FREE handout at Colonial - a listing of Rhode Island Restaurant Award winners.

Summer Delight
The Bellini
The Bellini began in Italy, at Harry's Bar, that Venetian icon that played host to Hemingway and Welles. Since its invention in the 1930s, the drink (along with its spiritual sister, the Mimosa) has become an unbeatable brunch standard. It’s the best reason ever to drink before noon – consider it the patron saint of Sunday pancakes. It’s also the Italians ‘first’ after-work drink; especially on hot summer days.
1/3 part Peach puree
2/3 parts Mionetto Prosecco
Fresh raspberries (optional)
SANGRIA (serves 4)
Refreshing, chilled Spanish tradition; a staple in summer.
1 bottle Spanish red wine
¼ cup brandy
4 Tbs lemon juice
4 Tbs orange juice
2 Tbs sugar
2 c Club Soda or Sprite
Orange slices & Cherries
Mix ingredients (except orange slices and cherries) in a large pitcher. Stir with a wooden spoon until well mixed. Pour into large wine glasses. Garnish with orange slices and cherries. Ice may be added to the pitcher.
