Colonial Liquor Store was founded in 1947. During that time there have been only two owners. Caroline and Bruce Larson purchased the store in 1991 and began the long process in converting the location from a ‘package’ store to a fine wine store, hence the present name - Colonial Wine & Spirits. The store’s mission statement is to focus on the customer and provide the customer with the wines and education to ensure that the ‘buying experience’ is both fruitful and entertaining.
Caroline Larson has been collecting wine for over 18 years. As an extreme wine enthusiast, she has dedicated the last 9 years to hand-selecting both fine wines and seriously good wine at excellent prices. We now have over 800 wines from around the world– all tasted and approved by our discriminating staff. As true wine aficionados, we are passionate about sharing our knowledge and excitement with our customers. Therefore, we host weekly wine tastings every Friday evening from 4:00-7:00PM, conduct wine tasting classes, bring in industry experts, and partner with local restaurants and caterers for the ultimate experience of pairing wine with food. We also have a Bacchus Wine Club for those interested in receiving discounts and learning more about wine on a regular basis.
Caroline’s experience and on-going travels to the world’s wine regions provide us with allocations of unique wines that are rare to the retail business. Our educated staff samples over 1,000 wines a year of which only about 20% are ‘accepted’ into the store. By so doing, we have uncovered many ‘diamonds in the rough’. We also keep our gems in a climate controlled room (capacity of 5,000 bottles) to ensure that our customer's wines always receive the care and attention they deserve!
Our quaint neighborhood shop provides a comfortable atmosphere for everyone from the novice looking to learn more to the collector trying to find a rarity. Whether it is something familiar or unusual, our friendly and knowledgeable staff can always recommend something to satisfy your palate.
